As part of a Friday News Dump, the City of Albuquerque announced they’ve reached a deal to lease 7 acres of Balloon Fiesta Park (BFP) to the NM United for a stadium. And I’m very conflicted for a few reasons. . And not the least of those is that this is a mile from my house. The master plan for BFP currently doesn’t allow for an outdoor stadium. @MayorKeller has said the city will talk to neighbors, but frankly I and my neighbors haven’t heard shit from Keller nor the city. . Traffic around the Alameda & I-25 area is already crap. And now we are being told we need to bear more? There’s already 10+ days a year where living here’s a TOTAL SHIT SHOW. I’m talking passes & check points just to reach my own house! And I knew that when I bought. . But what I didn’t sign up for was ANOTHER 30+ days (~20 home matches + 10 days of city use). And this is a private stadium, so in theory that means NM United could start holding concerts / events / etc at the stadium to earn back some of their 30+ million of construction costs. . Also that means 20+ more nights of possible fireworks to scare the shit out of my dog. And loud amplified noise in the evenings to disrupt my relaxation in my own yard. . It was already happening from the local Harley Davidson dealer until we got that shit shutdown (so bad you could hear it with doors & windows closed). But now the city wants more! . And then there’s the 800+ parking spots that the @BalloonFiesta will loose due to this stadium, which puts more pressure on those original 10 days & makes things like traffic worse (which ripples for all of us). . I understand this stadium needs to go somewhere, but Ballon Fiesta Park is a literal marriage of convenience for both the City & the @NewMexicoUtd. This isn’t the mixed used development that was promised. So the people who live here basically get nothing from this. . I might feel differently if there was actual, literally communication coming from @MayorKeller or @OneABQ, or @ABQCityCouncil, BUT THERE IS NONE AT THE MOMENT! So until the residence who actually live here are involved, I’m gonna have to say IM AGAINST NMUTD’s STADIUM!

Verizon was setting up one of their CoW’s today (Cell on Wheels) in anticipation of #BalloonFiesta which starts next Friday with Albuquerque Aloft. I gotta say on a Mass Ascension weekend where you have 80k+ people on the field, these do little good. They’ll help, but it’s like using a towel in a flood. What we really need is a bunch of small cell antennas on the field somehow. But ain’t no one got money for that…so here we are.
